Vacant Properties—Nuisance or Serious Threat?

Have you noticed any empty or underutilized homes or businesses in Irish Hill? Does it bother you to see property that is not receiving any love despite so much potential? The Irish Hill Neighborhood Association (IHNA) is on a mission to identify threatened properties in the neighborhood and promote their reuse as owned and/or occupied homes and businesses. Threatened properties are defined as underused, empty, abandoned, in disrepair or a public nuisance.

As a first step, we’d like to identify which properties are threatened and why. We hope to continue with developing a website to promote their repair as well as promote Irish Hill as a great place to live and work. We want to feature some great examples of remodels in the area, properties for sale, a blog for neighbors to contribute their remodeling advice, links to resources, etc.

If you know of properties on your block that are abandoned or unoccupied or if you would like to get more involved in the solution, email us at info@irishhillneighbors.org.

Nazarene Youth Day in Irish Hill

Wednesday, July 6 . 10am—2pm . SAVE THE DATE!!!

10 am – 2 pm . Meet in Irish Hill Park

Irish Hill will host a group of volunteers during the Nazarene Youth Conference.  Young adults from all over the nation will gather during the first week of July in Louisville.  During the conference, the participants will go into Louisville neighborhoods and spend a day giving back to the community.  What a beautiful thing!

Thanks to our Metro Councilwoman, Tina Ward-Pugh, Irish Hill is able to benefit from the generosity and civic involvement of these young adults.  45 volunteers will take to the streets of Irish Hill going door-to-door distributing neighborhood information packets.  While walking the neighborhood, the volunteers will also be sprucing up the neighborhood by picking up trash.

Although this is a week day, we invite you to commit some time, even if just for an hour or so, and show these young folks that we care about our neighborhood! Lunch will be provided! To volunteer, please register by contacting Chandler at info@irishhillneighbors.org or call 502.905.4342

July Neighborhood Meeting

Wednesday . July 20, 2011 . 6:30pm . Gilda’s Club

Irish Hill Walkability Assessment

During the July neighborhood meeting, IHNA will host an Irish Hill neighborhood “Walkability Assessment.”  It has been over 10 years since the Santo-Uhl expedition canvassed the neighborhood to access sidewalks, lighting, curbs, buffers, TARC stops and the general the safe walkability of the Irish Hill neighborhood.

How the Walkability Assessment will be conducted:

  • Meet at Gilda’s Club for a brief presentation including what to look for and how to rate the assessment during the walk.
  • Divide into groups and assign sections of the neighborhood to be assessed.
  • Return forms to the Spring Street Bar and Grill.
  • Fill out individual post-assessment sheet.
  • ENJOY delicious FREE appetizers with your neighbors!

The information from the Walkability Assessment will be recorded and mapped out for future use by the neighborhood.  This assessment tool provides the necessary information to make improvements in the  neighborhood.  A report is then presented to Metro District 9 Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh and various agencies to proactively better our neighborhood.

RSVP to info@irishhillneighbors.org or call, 502.905.4342, if you know you will be attending.  This will help us to set up the routes prior to the meeting
